A Detailed exploration of a week through Brick Lane, the heart of the country's Bangladeshi community, critically analysing whether Bengali cultural identity has been maintained, developed or created, in Brick Lane.
The thesis found there was evidence of the division in support for the question, changes in the built environment have definitely affected cultural identity, whether it be positive or negative. Critical analysis of similarities and differences between Brick Lane and Bangladesh has portrayed cultural identity has been attempted to be preserved through the built environment and ecology but changes offered diversity and adaptability.
Site Diary
A comprehensive study following the journey of a site that was previously a sports hall however, decisions by both the community and council resulted in a demolition and the creation of a mixed-use housing development and gym.
